Lendlease has used a new UK-manufactured dust and fume management system called Hazpod to cut down on dust during work on a restoration project.

Work by Lendlease’s subcontractor would have produced unavoidably
large quantities of dust as original like plasters and external stone sections were
removed and replaced on the unnamed scheme.
As a result, the construction team chose the portable Hazpod
system that sees workers operate inside specially designed enclosures that
provide a negative pressure environment.
The Hazpod dust extraction unit, which has an airflow of
3,500m3, dependent on the filter arrangement, effectively captures
the dust at source using a large collection hood that comes either with an
existing stand or can be attached to scaffolding.

The system, which weighs 38kg, can be operated by one
person.
Lendlease said: “The management team were keen to find a
highly portable and effective system that would not only protect their own
employees but would prevent any dust migration throughout the entire site,
therefore, increasing the safety of all contractors.”
